My Therapeutic Approach
"You are not the problem—
the problem is the problem."
Narrative Therapy
I specialize in Narrative Therapy, a postmodern approach that centers on YOUR unique story—not one-size-fits-all solutions. Unlike traditional therapy that might "fix" you, we see you as separate from your struggles.
I'm inspired by the creative part of the Narrative approach that transforms a problem-saturated story into a more enriched, balanced, and appreciative life. Together we will explore the hidden strength, wisdom, peace, and warmth in you.
-
Many problems stem from outside messages about who you "should" be—from culture, family, society, or past experiences. We'll separate you from these problems so you can see yourself clearly.
-
Your life is not a single story. We'll explore how dominant narratives have shaped your beliefs, then reconnect with your values, strengths, and the possibilities you want to create.
-
You know your life better than anyone. My role is to ask curious questions, offer new perspectives, and collaborate with you in writing your next chapter.
Integrated Approaches
While Narrative Therapy is my foundation, I integrate other evidence-based modalities:
-
Building psychological flexibility, clarifying values, and taking committed action toward what matters most.
-
Understanding thought patterns, developing practical coping skills, and addressing anxiety and depression.
-
For couples—strengthening emotional bonds, improving communication, and creating secure attachment.
Cultural Humility
As someone who has navigated multiple cultures and identities, I bring cultural humility to every session. I don't assume I know your experience—instead, I approach with curiosity, respect, and a commitment to understanding your unique context.
For AAPI Clients: I understand the nuances of collectivist vs. individualist values, family duty, immigration experiences, and the specific challenges of being "between worlds."
For LGBTQ+ & CNM/ENM Clients: Your relationships and identities are not just tolerated—they're honored as valid and beautiful. I'm sex-positive, kink-allied, and truly affirming.
What Therapy Looks Like
Collaborative
I use metaphors, storytelling, and everyday language to make therapy relatable and meaningful.
Practical
You'll leave with tools—whether that's communication strategies, emotion regulation techniques, or new perspectives on old problems.
Affirming
This is a space where you don't have to explain or justify yourself. You are already whole.
